For the last few years I have been vowing to reduce my workload with regards to underwater shooting. When I do too many sessions things get way too rushed and I fun times in the water give way to many grumpy hours processing the thousands of images. But 2015 is the first year I actually succeeded. In fact, I only held three underwater sessions, and boy-oh-boy did that ever work out better for me.
In the end there were a total of 14 models, which is a very manageable number. At no time over the summer did I get overly backlogged and I was able to turn around the shots in a reasonable time. The big question is, will I remember this valuable lesson by the time the 2016 season rolls around?

I've spent the last few weeks rebuilding the site under a new WordPress theme. Normally, switching themes is a pretty simple process, but this new theme uses a completely different image gallery gizmo than the old one, which means I had to rebuild all the galleries one-by-one.
Even though this was a time-intensive process, I quite liked the opportunity to look back through all the photos from these past seven years. As I worked my way through them, I started to wonder just how many underwater sessions I've done. How many models have I worked with? How many times have I clicked the shutter while squinting through the blurry port of my underwater camera case? (more…)
Shhhhh!!
I'm very quietly launching a new photo project. Why quietly? Because unlike my past large-scale projects that required getting as many people as I possible could, this one is going to be somewhat smaller. It might only use a dozen or so people, so instead of promoting it heavily I'm just going to see what happens organically. (more…)
I really did not think I was going to do much underwater photography this summer. By late May I had only set one firm shooting date, but also had plans to have a few less-structured shoots over the coming months, none of which I expected to yield too many new galleries. It didn't help that the first two of these shoots had to be cancelled due to freakishly unpleasant weather. (more…)
